Coffee break- kids need more sugar in their diet

Coffee_manI am sitting here in my local Starbucks, ducking while typing as there are four (4) kids running around the front of the store throwing things at each other (and me in the process).  They are totally wired and bouncing off the walls, tables, chairs and anything else that gets in their way.  It’s like watching a YouTube video on super fast speed.  It will soon settle down though as Mom is in the line getting their drinks.  Here she comes now with four of those creme drinks made out of sugar.  That’s just what they need.  :)   OUCH!  Not fast enough on the duck.

Makes me think of a sign I saw in a gift shop a few weeks ago. It read: Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy.

  • Bryan says:

    Lol @ Patrick.

Reminds me of typical day at a restaurant. (Any restaurant.) Babys screaming. Todlers screaming. Children running all over the place. Parents not watching their children. People nearly tripping over children… Welcome to Utah!

  • SAM says:

How about the kid that kicks the back of your seat and competes in the tray table slamming contest all the way from SFO to Chicago or the one ahead of you that sits/reclines 244,987 times in 5 hours…
At least in the coffee shop you can get up and leave

  • Keith says:

Sounds like some kids need more belt to the butt in their diet.

  • Wired Dude says:

why not just acknowledge that child rearing is hard work and parents need a little break once in a while? We were all once kids and I’m sure our parents couldn’t keep an eye on us every second of the day. Kids have an incredible amount of energy with or without sugar.

  • Spen says:

if you want mom to keep an eye on the kids & keep’um close by, just be sure to let her see you offering them some candy & a seat on your lap cause your “Santa”.

    works EVERYTIME!!!

  • turn.self.off says:

just watch out for cops there spen. something like that can turn very ugly, very fast these days…

  • Roma says:

lol, i believe that was a joke TSO.. although i gatta agree, there is something very Santa-like about James!

  • Des says:

@Sam – I’ve been behind more adults who did that that kids.

@Kevin – I agree that if the kids are hyper dosing them with liquid sugar is fr from a good idea.

However folk should remember that sometimes parents are at their wits end and what seemed like a good idea to go out for something to eat can be transformed to a journey from hell in 5 mins….

  • Des says:

Of course I meant @James and not @Kevin…

..I blame the clocks going forward last night.

Man, I don’t understand how hard it is NOT to give your kids sugar. Everytime I’m out with my daughter, people are offering her candy, soda, whatever constantly — SHE’S 11 MONTHS OLD!!!

Believe me, I get at my wits end all the time (and I’m not even to the crazy toddler stage yet), whether it’s my daughter throwing fits (the pediatrician SWEARS that they don’t start doing that until 2 years old usually — tell that to my daughter!), or it’s her trying to stick anything and everything into a light socket, or putting anything and everything in her mouth, or refusing to take naps or sleep, or whatever else.

Kids are the most fun you’ll ever have going insane, no doubt about it.

However, with all of that, and with needing the breaks that people have mentioned — STILL doesn’t mean that your break should be to let them go hogwild on other people or in public!
