FWIW, I never thought you “chose” Vista — I thought that’s what it came with and you figured why go to the trouble of stripping it out for XP?

Totally agree with you. Hopefully LTE and WiMax (Xoam) will make is easier for Verizon and Sprint customers to have their connection be more portable between devices with integrated connections.

I’ll probably put up some toughts on this tonight but the most significant difference between Vista and XP for me is the improved tablet functionality over XP. Handwriting recognition is better and the UI for the TIP is more functional/intuative. I think there are other advantages but this is the reason I installed it on the Q1UP.

CP, that’s getting to be a common question here these days. Sounds like it might be time for a post. I’ve held off on such an article because choice of OS is like choice of a device: what works for me might not be best for you and others. Also: folks will interpret the article as me trying to convince them that OS 1 is better than OS 2, which wouldn’t be the intent.

Stephen and Kevin, Just out of curiosity what features made you both decide to upgrade to vista? Is the extra burden to the system worth it?

Samsung Q1 Ultra is a piece of Junk …. Really don’t know what the hell they were thinking to put Vista on the device. Slow, retarded … Power it on .. you got to brew the coffee, go to bathroom to PP, it would not come back after you’re back. Upgrade RAM, ya, right, void your W after doing it.

Stephen, I’m not questioning your decision to use integrated 3G at all. I’m simply stating it’s not for me. I’m an EV-DO user, so I don’t have the flexibility that you have to move a SIM card around with multiple devices or modems. Definitely sounds like you’ve made the better choice for you!

It’s probably worth mentioning that most large companies in the US have discounted corporate rates with one or more cellular providers. I would encourage you to check into this because it might make the difference in you being able to justify the monthly cost. In my case, I’m expensing the account each month and the added productivity justifies the expense.

I still have another 875U so when I want to use my account on another device, it’s a simple as poppng my sim in the USB card and I’m off to the races. It was worth it to me to not have anthing hanging off the side of the UMPC.

That $60/mo is just for the *data*? Doesn’t include voice/SMS, whatever?

Argh!!! Whenever you mention one of these wireless things, please also mention an American phone network it works with!! I have no frikkin idea who offers HSDPA here and what it would cost. Certainly that guy isn’t doing that for free!
