Mozilla Mobile shows 5.9x performance increase on ARM device

Mozilla_fennec_performanceExcellent news out of the Mozilla Mobile project today in terms of performance. The latest Firefox 3 build sounds lightning-quick and has a smaller memory footprint. Early tests compare MicroB, the default browser in Nokia’s OS2008 for Internet Tablets, and Fennec, the new mobile browser based on beta 4 of FF3. The reported difference is nearly six times faster on the ARM-based Nokia N810! On the graph, a lower number is better; MicroB is shown in blue while Fennec is orange. The Mozilla folks still have a bunch of work left to do before ARM devices see the new web browser. Support for a soft-keyboard and some UI decisions are still waiting in the wings, but from a performance perspective, everything seems to be on track. Curious about the UI options under consideration? Keep tabs on this wiki page over at the Mozilla Wiki and you can grab an early build of Fennec for the Nokia N810 right here; just hit the link from your Internet Tablet.Update: Steve Paine correctly pointed out that this test was for JavaScript performance. Just a clarification.(via Windows for Devices)
