Laptop Mag- how to configure HP Mini-Note for Skype video calls
In my review of the HP Mini-Note, I lamented over the inability to get the device to make decent Skype video calls. The HP can make audio calls just fine but video is too choppy to be of any use. Joanna Stern of Laptop Magazine agrees with me and decided to find a way to make it work. I am happy to report she has been successful so check out her article to see how you can change the Mini-Note’s configuration to get Skype video calls to work acceptably if that is important to you. Well done, Joanna!

Joanna Stern kicked yer Texan gadget-lovin’ butt?! You better watch your back, James! Joanna is armed with bacon!
Yes, she is.
I ordered my Mini Note last night. Those tweaks aren’t exactly what I want to do every time I receive a Skype call (okay, the VM change is a one-time change and maybe not needed on a 2gb machine anyway).
You’d really think that HP, considering the bothered to put a camera into the machine, would have tried Skype during their development cycle.
I’d be rather interested how changing the OS to Windows XP could improve the overall performance on Via C7, I’m sure Vista is sloooowing this thing down… Has anyone tried it so far?
@Oliver: It’s obvious HP rushed it to market.
@Marco: Lots of people have put XP on it. See:
