Coffee break- working in the sun

Coffee_man_2I just hung up from a conference call with Kevin and one other person that was pretty cool.  Firstly, I was sitting outside the local coffee shop in the bright sun with just an umbrella providing a bit of shade.  Secondly, the conference call was conducted flawlessly with my BlackBerry and Bluetooth headset that worked very well.  And thirdly, I was using the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 to keep up with the topics discussed and while the screen was dim due to the bright sun it was still usable  It’s nice to work in the sun.  :)   I should mention that we have something very cool coming up right after the Dragon contest ends next week.  Very cool indeed.  :)

I think you should pay me five bucks for every time you mention the U110.

Or you could just send it to me and I could fine myself.

Anyway, that Dragon mention made me think: Do you have that Dragon voice recognition software? Or doesn’t Vista have something like that built-in? Have you tried it on the U110 yet? (I’ll waive the fines if you write about that — but just for THAT post!)

    James:

I try to do these conf calls outside all the time here in Miami. The one thing my colleagues keep complaining about is that when a breeze hits, my BT headset seems to transmit this noise to the call and it gets a bit annoying (wind and breeze are way too common here).

Do you have a solution for this? I use a Samsung WEP200 headset. Maybe there is a BT headset out there that attenuates the influence of breeze/wind…

  • Fernando, I haven’t had any complaints using the Jawbone headset with its noise cancellation.

    Fernando –
Get the Etymotic etyBLU headset. It beats the Jawbone for noise cancellation and comes with a windscreen if you really want to use it in a convertible at 70mph. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/etyblu.aspx
I like that the boom is totally detachable too. Since there’s no DSP (it’s all acoustically-driven noise isolation) there’s no muffling or garbling of your voice for the person listening to you.
