GottaBeMobile reviews the ModBook

Modbook_pen_b_wRob Bushway of GottaBeMobile has his hands on a ModBook from Axiotron, the slate tablet that Axiotron converts from a MacBook.  He’s posted a first looks video and if you’re curious about this Mac tablet you should take a look.  I have to admit that after watching the video that thing is a beast at 5.5 lbs and extremely thick.  I don’t see how anyone could use it in their hands for extended periods as it’s just too darn big.  It seems like it runs very hot too.  I look forward to hearing Rob’s thoughts as he gets more familiar with the ModBook.

  • I was one of those that jumped on the Modbook early in 2007 when they were announced at Macworld. I got it delivered in April 2008, and I have to admit that as cool as the concept is, the Modbook is really not a mobile solution for those of us used to the realm of 3+ lbs of weight. I think it is a great machine for graphic artists who need a Mac OSX solution in table form, but the Modbook (at 5.5 lbs) is heavy, and is a power hog (another no-no for mobility).

After less then 5 days with it, I had to let it go to a nice soul on ebay, someone who wanted it for its graphic capabilities, not for its mobility.

Here’s me thinking of when sir SJ will grace us with a light Apple tablet. Probably won’t happen…
