Oh No! The final live American Idol is on and the power just went off in the neighborhood. It has the earmarks of an extended outage, too.   Booooooo!!

  • Hey James don’t worry, you can always access Kevin’s Sling Box using your AirCard.

  • Is it the ants that took out the electricity? Maybe they heard how many delicious electronics you were hoarding and intend to make a feast of it.

  • It’s gotta be those darn ants from the Orient! Bunch of geek ants, they are..

  • The power came back on in time for us to see the end of David Cook’s winning song. Bummer (that we missed the show} but Cook is pretty good.

  • JK, don’t you have a USB tuner for your notebook(s) so that you can watch it there? Or is it too unpractical?

I can, at least with the digital terrestrial network (DVB-T), watch TV virtually anywhere using a USB powerered antenna and a USB tuner connected to my notebook, which is kinda cool. :) (The antenna: http://www.terratec.net/en/products/Cinergy_Antenna_One_1676.html )

Someone Who Does NOT Watch American Idol — 6:20 PM on May 21, 2008 Reply

  • You watch a program about lazy Americans? Some people will watch anything if it’s in HD!

  • Why all the hatred and condescension? Because YOU don’t watch American Idol, why the need to be so condescending to those who do? So what if it’s not your cup of tea? I’m sure there are things you enjoy watching/doing that other people just aren’t going to understand. Diversity, differences of opinion and taste… those are good things, not something to be ridiculed. As for AI being a program about “lazy Americans” that’s just ignorance. Love the show or not, those contestants work their butts off.

Why all the hatred? — 11:42 PM on May 21, 2008 Reply

  • John is probably upset by the fact that the time slot for a favorite cooking show “A Thousand and one tails – an odyssey in the preparation of Lutefisk” – was taken over by American Idol.
I’m told by many of my friends out Nor-way that it’s a sore subject of much bitterness.
But hey, we cling to HD, gadgets and Idol, they cling to rotten fish soaked in lye – who’s to judge?

  • You’re so gadget focused and yet you don’t have a backup generator? I’m disappointed in you ;)

We lose power quite often here so I got a whole house generator installed with automatic transfer switch – the power goes out in winter and while all the neighbors are looking for a hotel room I am nice and comfortable.

P.S. I blame the ants too.

  • Hey, I was kidding guys! It was a play on words. idol (idle) – lazy. Get it? Oh well, maybe only true English speakers got it.

As for that fish, I tried it once. The secret is to drink lots of akvavit in between bites. It’s still disgusting though.
