Palm Centro isn’t superstitious… available Friday the 13th
I thought that releasing a phone on Friday the 13th was a bad idea but apparently, Verizon Wireless doesn’t. The Cobalt Blue Palm Centro will be available for online purchasing tomorrow, Friday the 13th. Initial pricing is comparable to the same handset at Sprint and AT&T. $99 with a rebate and two-year contract gets you a CDMA Centro with EV-DO support, making this a solid deal in my book. Regardless of what day it is.
Speaking of deals: you can nab the VZW E-Mail and Web for Smartphones plan at a cost of $29.99 a month. I remember paying $45 a month for a similar Verizon plan with my XV6700 and this compares niecly with other carrier data plans. Verizon indicates this is an "unlimited" data plan, but of course you’ll want to check the terms of service as they likely indicate a soft 5 GB monthly cap. Tethering the Centro is officially supported by Verizon, but that’s through a $30 monthly service add-on.

Oh come on, you can’t seriously be superstitious!? Friday the 13th is a good day….it’s FRIDAY!
I wonder who actually uses these things? I liked the look of the device (and the fact that it is a Palm — I still have tons of Palm software), but I played with one at a local electronics store and found the “keyboard” to be virtually unusable. The “keys” are too small, and the material they are made of makes it even worse.
I have the Centro and I love it. The keyboard is usable if you use your finger nail. I also love the ability to tether. I have sprint, verizon will work with a program called usb modem. It does not require to have a data plan. It installs a driver on the PC ( Operating system are Mac, Linux and Windows). I would like to get a iPhone, but the data and phone plans together is almost as much as the I have with sprint for two phones. It is great not having to pay for thethering. Having a cellphone, and a modem all in one is great. The sero plan for a usb modem is $40.00.
