Toshiba Qosmio G55- no rude gestures allowed

G55withhand_shThese days it seems that we hear about "multi-touch" interfaces a lot.  The iPhone kicked that interface into high gear and when you look around the web you get the feeling that folks think multi-touch should be the interface on everything.  Toshiba may be the exception to this as a review on Laptop Magazine demonstrates.  Their new Qosmio G55 laptop is not using multi-touch, no the big innovation here is a gesture interface that uses the integrated web cam to interpret hand gestures and execute system functions as a result.  I’m not sure how useful this might be but the video demo that Laptop Magazine gives is still impressive.  I am more impressed with the high power G55 laptop and its quad-core processor.  Now that’s a fast momma.

  • In case anyone else was like me and did a better job of getting excited then reading carefully, the article also states “Our test model includes Intel’s next-generation Centrino 2 technology”. If I have this right, this means that the laptop does not run on the quad-core, it just includes it much in the same way a computer might include a dedicated GPU to boost certain functionality.
