I love the smell of EVDO in the morning

PackingAs you have probably guessed I am knee-deep, all right neck deep, in the process of moving to a new house.  We’ve scheduled it as best we could to make sure we have plenty of time to carry important things to the new house ahead of the movers.  No matter how much planning you put into it Mr. Murphy has the final say in how well the timing works as we all well know.  That’s why I will not be surprised if I end up with a few days of no broadband at the new place but I’m not concerned.

It is 7:30 am on Sunday morning and I am in the new place already.  I brought some stuff over in my car and I’m waiting for a couple of appliances to be delivered and installed.  I am sitting in the new Mobile Tech Manor, eating my steel-cut oatmeal, sipping some java and working online.  The online part is thanks to the EVDO on the Verizon network which is why I’m not too concerned if I end up with a few days of no broadband.  The EVDO is more than fast enough to do my work and still feel like part of the online community and that rocks.

  • Congrats on your new home. We’re just starting the process ourselves. An EVDO modem is one of those things that you think “would be nice” when you don’t have one, and you realize you can’t function without it once you do have it. :-)

We’re house hunting now and I’m the true geek in that I’m checking every possible address for broadband options and in the Sprint coverage area.

  • Judi, that’s what I did too. I am happy that I get two bars of Verizon EVDO signal in the new digs and only 0-1 bar in the old. I am unhappy that there is no Verizon FIOS in the new neighborhood yet. Good luck with your house hunting.

  • When we moved about two months ago, I used an EVDO card and Cradlepoint router (mbr1000) to feed everything – computers, Xbox Live, Vudu, and TiVos.

  • Dave, that would work well. I use Internet sharing in Vista to do the same thing for WIndows PCs.

  • Au contraire, a new and improved Mobile Tech Manor. I’m sitting in it right now and it rocks.

  • Congrats James. I am looking forward to see one of your videos from the new place. Hope it is before the iPhone 3G ;)

  • Honey, it is now Mobile Tech Ct. OK? New digs, new address. Manor just doesn’t do justice to the new place. Love you.
