Thats not true, i have bought the iphone the very same day it came out and i have checked the upgrade page many many times, maybe every two weeks, most of the times it told me that i was eligible to an upgraded phone with a new 2 year agreement but sometimes it said i was not. However one of my friends who also had bought his the first day it came out, went ahead and bought a Blackjack less than 2 months after the iphone and kept it as a backup!!! So i wouldnt take this as a way to messaure, i think stevy jobs will let us know very very soon on what happens to us if we choose to upgrade.
Im hoping we cet some kinda rebate or discount for being loyal. I also heard we keep paying the $20 for data and the new $30 for the 3g

The only thing holding me back from getting an iPhone 3G is the $30/month data plan, it’s a shame. Apparently that require a data plan.

I checked mine earlier and found I could upgrade in Jan 09.
