I think the Treo 800w is going to be an impressive phone. It can’t compete with a 3G iPhone on price ($199 for 8GB iPhone 3G vs. $299 for a Treo 800w & 8GB micro SDHC card) but there’s enough features on the Treo to make me want it over the iPhone 3G… GPS, SDHC memory, replaceable battery, tether capability, A2DP (confirmed), flash capable browser (Opera Mini 9.5 and Skyfire). All that said, the iPhone has an incredible capacitive touchscreen that the 800W can’t hold a candle to and a UI that Windows Mobile (even with SPB Mobile Shell 2.1) can’t hope to emulate.

I can’t wait for it to be released…. on Verizon. Here’s to hoping that they don’t cripple the GPS like they do on the 8830, 8130 and XV6800.

It is interesting to see Palm and HP both coming with similar devices. The IPAQ 910 has a better processor and it’s unlocked.

Don't care about MMS, but if you want a Sprint hi-res WinMo, this is probably about your only choice until the Touch Pro comes out. And we're hearing that the Treo is zippy, and the Touch Pro hesitates.

Push comes to shove and I might have to get the Treo, but I'd prefer a better resolution screen. Mostly because it's pretty, and better for remote desktop (e.g. the phone controlled by my tablet so I get a better screen and still legally use my WinMo internet connection).

That XPERIA X1 also looks pretty nice, though, even if it may only be on ATT.

You mention that "256 MB is pretty reasonable for a Windows Mobile 6.1 device". I'd dispute that. Why do we Windows Mobile users get stuck with phones that have 1/32 the memory of the iPhone at a higher price? And we get smaller screens with lower resolution. Seems to me that the Windows Mobile devices have a danger of being wiped out if they don't start matching the specs of the iPhone or are significantly cheaper. Why pay more for less with a smaller screen. And still have a crappy browser.

I write this as someone who has have a CE/Windows Mobile device since the original iPaq. I feel ripped off and under-appreciated. If I want to feel that way I might as well let Steve Jobs do that to me and at least get a more capable device.
