iPhone 3G mania- line forming a week early in NYC
You couldn’t make this stuff up and it could only happen in New York but engadget is reporting that a line has already started outside the Fifth Avenue Apple Store. The iPhone 3G won’t go on sale for a week but there is photo documented proof that at least 10 people are already in line to guarantee they can pick up the new iPhone next week. We haven’t heard any word on lines forming near podcast co-host Matt Miller’s home in Washington but no one’s heard from him for a few days. He usually waits until the night before to camp out for an iPhone though.

Wait in line a few hours?
Wait in line for a week?
Hmm… Hard choice.
Well, I have heard he’s been seen loitering within tent.
In some countries people are making line for a fistful of rice… And maybe get nothing at the end… And in some others places, people do the same thing for the last gadget… The world is walking on the head !
Crazy or so stupid ?
all this over a phone…
can someone please point the way out of bizarro-world?
All this for a phone that will not be sold out anyway?
In Italy a lot of people are trying to boicot the 3G iPhone.
Vodafone’s base price is 2184 USD for 2 years, with only 600 MB/month of data.

Are we sure this isn’t a photo from the day before original iPhone launch? It is hard to imagine people actually camping out for a week.
Are you sure that’s not matt under the green tarp James?

Bingo to ignar!
The first iDay, I went around taking pictures of various lines, eventually winding up at the Apple SoHo Store mob. They ran through that line — which went around all four sides of a big block — in about an *hour*.
I was able to stroll in after that and fondle the iPhone. And there were still PLENTY left to buy.
The same thing will happen this time.
And if it SHOULD sell out? So what?! They’ll be back in stock by Monday, tops!
I don’t think the iPhone will sell out. No need to camp out for a week.
AT&T and Apple will have plenty of phones, and like Crazy Mike Cane said, if and its a big if they sell out they will be back in stock Monday morning. With the higher price of data, SMS, etc… I don’t think to many will be rushing to purchase one. At least not like the first iPhone.
Morons…
It amazes me when you consider that so many people out there complain today at near-$5/gallon gas prices, thousands are losing their homes to foreclosure because they cannot pay the interest rates and jobs are being lost across the country, we have these IMBECILES camping in front of stores for a week, who will STAND IN LINE and be EXCITED to pay $400 for a phone and $100+/month for cell phone service…
I guess America is, and always will be, the LAND OF THE IDIOTS.
Just because some people’s values are not yours, does not make the idiots. Its their time and money to spend as they see fit.
Are you suggesting perhaps that everyone should be wringing their hands over the economy and crying through a haze of doom and gloom? Some of us are doing quite well in this economy (psst…because we made the right choices and are generally blessed perhaps?)
