Round 1: Intel’s Atom holds its own against Intel’s Core Solo
Here’s a nice, positive indicator for the Silverthorne-flavored Intel Atom: using the Vista Performance Index as a point of comparison, the Kohjinsha SC3 holds it’s own against my Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium. This is just one of many high level benchmarks that I’m sure we’ll see, but you can’t overlook the fact that the new chipset has definite potential in a full-featured computer. I definitely would’t mind getting some hands on time with an SC3 or other comparable device to do a head-to-head between the two Intel-based systems.

I’m actually using this:

In a small form factor case with a 2 GB stick of RAM and a 1 TB HDD. Currently I have Server 2008 x64 on there doing filesharing duties and it is surprisingly responsive and snappy. Any tests you’d like to run on it?
Well, from 2.7 to 2.9 is not that much but still a difference. 0.2 in Vista´s score is a difference. But I agree, this second wave of Atom processors are a lot more competitive. The 1.6 GHz should be a perfect match for the 1.2 Core Solo.
so whats the difference between silver & diamond? what frequencies will they run at? power consumption? which is being put in all these new subnotes (EEE, Wind, etc)?
