It appears the lower cost mini-notebooks are getting the attention of the big boys with new ThinkPads announced today by Lenovo starting at just $799.  The three new ThinkPad models, SL300, SL400 and SL500 feature 13-inch, 14-inch and 15.4-inch screens respectively and all contain the new Montevina processors from Intel.

Lenovo wasn’t content to announce those three new ThinkPads, they’ve also announced six new notebooks aimed at the rest of the world.  The ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T500, X200 and W500 cover the gamut in screen sizes and features and have just about everybody covered who jones for the ThinkPad line.  Full press release after the jump.  Many of these models have discrete graphics that are user configurable.

The x200 is the new Tablet PC, the replacement for the x61, that is now in a widescreen format 12-inch screen.  It also has (for the first time) a web cam making it a real travel mate.

  • The X200 they showed off is the Tablet version O.o;;; I thought they were just showing off the notebook version (Like the X61 in comparison to the X61T.) None of the other media outlets are reporting on the fact that the X200 is a tablet, but I hope it is! Where exactly did you read about that particular kernel of knowledge?

  • The X200 is both a notebook and a Tablet version as per the information I received from Lenovo.

  • Yick, you need to format that text so it can actually be read! An $800 ThinkPad?! What does that do to Lenovo’s U110? Eh, what do I care?

  • On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage …

Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC’s will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.

Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.

Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

    http://www.BackupReview.info

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.
