Mophie plans an iPhone 3G Juice Pack to extend the battery
I was going to wean myself off of the iPhone posts, but since Apple claims to have already sold a million iPhone 3G handsets, it appears I’m fighting a losing battle for now. Fret not, there’s more mobile tech news out there than just what we see from Cupertino. However, I wanted to highlight a company that makes something that I believe will be in BIG demand for the iPhone 3G: more juice! I’m speaking of Mophie, the company that made the first battery extender to garner the "Works with iPhone" certification.
That $99 unit, the Mophie Juice Pack (shown), is for the first-gen iPhones and is essentially a holster and battery solution. According to the company, it adds 250-hours of standby, 24-hours of audio playback, 7-hours of video and/or 6 more hours of web-surfing. Remember, those figures are for the first-generation iPhone. Mophie plans to release a similar solution for the iPhone 3G come September and I expect that as folks surf more with their faster connection, these Juice Packs will be a big hit. OK, I’ll try to make that be the last iPhone post for now… at least until they sell two million of ‘em, or until tomorrow… whichever comes first.

Would it be useful for someone to come out with an extender that provides a proper pass-through and a port that works for standard docks, etc?
Oh my God, Kevin, look at that phone’s battery! It’s just so… BIG!
I like big battrees and I can’t deny…
OK, sorry, I got carried away thinking about the people who want their phones to be ultra thin.
Oh boy I just had a flashback to the iPaq 3600 with the extended battery sleeve, I’ve been into the mobile market way too long!
That does indeed resemble an old ipaq 3975 with the ultra battery pack attached.
Is technology suddenly going backwards???
I never did enjoy carrying that house brick on my belt…
Gee, too bad they couldn’t have this thing ready to go on July 11th along with the actual phone. How hard could it have been to modify the case to the new form factor? Obviously case designers were given the specs some time ago, as shown by the plethora of cases out there already.
They might have been provided the physical specs of the device dimensions, but I gather that they weren’t provided the info on the charging/synching port. From what I’ve heard, the new iPhone 3G can’t be charged with current solutions that worked with the original iPhone.
I went for the 3G Juice, see http://www.3gjuice.com or http://www.amazon.com/3GJUICE-iPhone-3G-Battery-Extender/dp/B001DDYH9I/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1
1770 mAh will do for a while
I pre-ordered mine today!
The actually put it up a few days ago and then took it down a couple hours later, but it’s back up now if anyone wants to pre-order.
