jkOnTheRun Geek Session: we’re part of the GigaOM team, now what?

The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind experience and not just for us. I think we’ve had more reader comments generated today than any other day prior, so we know you’ve been busy too. Of course, we’re talking about joining the GigaOM team and we wanted to address the news and questions in our typical Geek Session video chats. Long story short: we won’t change much other than devoting more time into bringing you the best mobile tech news, views and reviews that we’ve always tried to. But don’t just take my word for it; watch the video!

  • Mike says:

Congrats to you both James and Kevin! Glad to hear that that you’ll still be running the site as normal.

So James, this means that you already left the Big Oil Co.? Or you still with them in some capacity?

  • Mike, no as I said in the video I hung up my shingle for good.

  • Travis says:

I have seen a few mentions of James working for “Bog Oil”. Can you say what you did for them exactly and even the name of the company?

How long has this been in the works?

    Thanks guys.

    Congrats again.

Normally I’d be worried about a blog being acquired by a bigger blog but Om Malik seems like a down to earth guy at least in his cranky geeks appearances.

Maybe you can finally convince him about the joys of working with a tablet device.

  • Chris O says:

congrats to both of you. been enjoying your words for awhile now, especially about tablets.

  • Rick Huizinga says:

Now that jkOnTheRun has been acquired by GigaOM, will Matt Miller still be part of the Mobile Tech Roundup podcast?

  • John in Norway says:

Does this mean the sound quality will improve? :)
    Congratulations, by the way.

  • TheEminentGeek says:

Congratulations guys…this is beyond awesome. Seeing what I would guess is a “dream” for you guys come to fruition, only gives me hope that I can one day achieve my goals! Truly Inspiring!!!!

  • Allan_Jones says:

As everyone else has said: ‘Well done!’.

But I’d wager a sizeable sum that you two were, if not exactly planning this, then betting pretty heavily on something like it happening. It’s been pretty clear that the day jobs (or job, as Kevin appears to have taken the gamble of going freelance months back) enabled you to support yourselves doing what you wanted to do.

OK, you don’t have to answer this! Again, congrats.

  • Rick, we’re still doing the podcast with Matt. No changes there and that’s a great: Matt rounds out the conversation in a very valuable way in my opinion. :)

  • Jen says:

I love the grins on your faces. What a trip. Well deserved.

Since this information is all public, and on a public site I thought I’d chime in on people above were curious:
