There is something quite infectious about a geek unboxing a new toy and the new unboxing video at Laptop Magazine certainly qualifies as infectious.  There is not doubt that Joanna Stern is quite happy to have the Gigabyte M912 arrive in her office and the unboxing confirms that euphoria.  I can’t say I blame Joanna, the Gigabyte M912 is a great netbook with a swiveling 8.9-inch touchscreen for that Tablet PC fix.  Check out the unboxing video and keep your eyes peeled for the promised videos to come of this sweet netbook.

  • this is definitely the 1 i want. the only 2 faults i can even find is the OS choice (non-tablet) & battery life.

luckily the OS can be corrected easily with my dozen or so copies of Vista & XP Tablet lying around. has anyone heard of an extended battery being released for it? right now it’s using a 4-cell & the 3 hours it is currently achieving sucks.

  • Design looks good, but my main concern is about display quality and touchscreen usage in terms of it’s abilities for inking (handwriting notes)…from what I read elsewhere, I think that this has ’soft-touch’ screen which I guess is good for using with your finger instead of needing stylus…if that’s the case I assume that’s not so good for handwriting notes???

  • Don’t bother with inking… I doesn’t have active digitizer. This means you have to touch the screen only with the pen.
The inking quality is somehow better towards the center of the screen. Not a pleasant experience.. has nothing to do with the handwriting. :D
