Joiku, FON to offer premium mobile hotspot software

JoikuspotpremiumRegular readers are likely familiar with JoikuSpot, the mobile phone application that turns your 3G Symbian S60 handheld into a WiFi hotspot. It’s a simple method to essentially use your high-speed handset as a modem and have various other WiFi-enabled devices use the connection. Today, the Joiku folks announced a partnership with another WiFi-sharing faction in the mobile space: FON. Later this quarter, they’ll release FonSpot, a FON-branded version of the JoikuSoft Premium Edition software.

Normally, the Premium Version now for 15 Euros, so FONeros can pocket the savings with the branded version when it arrives. The biggest feature in the Premium Edition: VPN support, which is priceless for those connecting to a corporate environment. Windows Mobile owners looking for similar functionality should check WMWifiRouter at 20 Euros; it offers similar functions for WinMo handsets that have integrated 3G.
