Funnily enough I just put a list together last night for the very same reason! Sadly, I have no self-control, so my bag still contains:
Samsung Q1b, iPod80GB, Blackberry curve, Palm Tungsten E2, 2GB flash drives x3, 1GB SD cards x3, headphones, USB A cable, USB B cable, Palm USB cable, iPod cable.

So... FAIL...!

I have been using just my WaterField sleevecase and the piggyback that goes with it for all of my stuff.

The sleevecase holds the HP tx2000 and the piggyback holds an external hard drive, power cable, headphones, bluetooth mouse, hand sanitizer, and a pen. What else would I need?

It's a very light way to travel and I love it!

I realized the exact same thing a few months ago. I was emptying out my bag to show someone else what I usually carry, and I noticed how much weight all those little extras add up too - flash drives, usb cables, bluetooth usb adapter, SD/Micro SD adapters, laptop headphones, cellphone headphones, pens, at least two old bluetooth headsets, highlighters, LED penlights, a small backup (paper) notebook, screen cleaning cloth, stowaway keyboard, etc.

That said, in several cases those extras have saved me when we needed them and no one else had it. Extra pens during meetings, extra flash drives for me to use + give to someone to print + third person to use, memory card adapters to get my photos into another computer, etc. I still want to carry them when meeting up with people, but for day to day use I don't always need them.

I'm thinking of just keeping all these things in the car, and going out to the car and back if I need something. In the meantime I'm keeping a usb drive, a usb/mini usb cable and my headphones attached to a little bag that clips onto my tablet case.
