Sprint very quietly has informed customers that they will cease offering any email services of any kind at the end of this year.  Current Sprint customers who have a Sprint email address (@sprintpcs.com) should note that the carrier will turn those addresses off completely on December 31 of this year.  There will be no transitioning period, your email address will suddenly go dark.  This is significant for Sprint customers so be aware this will happen and check out Sprint’s advice for transitioning to another provider.

  • I don’t think this is a big deal for most people as there are plenty of viable options.

  • I quit using my sprint email address a couple of years ago. This was about the same time I quit using any email addresses associated with my internet provider. Got tired of changing my email address every time someone new bought out our cable service.

  • In other news, I notified Sprint very quietly (through my new friends at the new AT&T) that I shut down my Sprint service at the end of last week ;)

  • When I had Sprint as a carrier, I never used their free email. However this is another example of economics coming to bear on a business that continues to consolidate. The downside of it is of course, less choice.
