Tablet PC in real estate- a great example of success

In my years of using Tablet PCs and dealing with folks who are wondering what the technology can do for them I have shown them to a lot of people in the real estate business.  Real estate dealings are the perfect setting for using the Tablet technology given all the paperwork involved and the need to exchange it rapidly.  Every time I have shown the Tablet to a realtor they have never failed to be impressed but even given a good demonstration very few end up adopting it for their own business.  This is something that has always confused me but this excellent video that shows how the Tablet technology can be leveraged by an actual realtor should do the trick.  It is readily apparent how the Tablet changes the complexion of a complex real estate transaction with the right software.  Have a look at it and see if you agree.  Interesting things of note: the realtor seems to always work with the Tablet in landscape orientation rather than portrait and she always closes it in laptop mode even though she seems to usually use it in slate mode.  She might be protecting the screen but I think it would be quicker to put it in the bag in slate mode for next time.

  • The ability to get documents signed and sent right back out is pretty amazing. The added bonus of being “paperless” only adds to what to it.

  • I use a Dell XT daily in slate mode.
I also close it everytime after using it to protect the screen, although I have a screen protector on it.

Is a tablet made to keep it in slate mode when transporting it? Any ideas?

  • I’ve transported mine for years that way without any trouble. I always use a bag with a soft laptop pocket though.

  • As soon as I saw the video I sent the link to friends of mine who own a remax franchise here in florida. He said he loved the vid and is testing this with one realtor in his business right now. very helpful for him to see this video.

As for storing in slate mode, JK do you use a screen protector? I think I’ve read in other posts that you dont correct?

  • I dock and undock my Fujitsu P1610 many times a day into a Ram vehicle mount. I usually rotate the screen every time I transport it. To me it is not much slower than hitting the switch to go into sleep mode, and I feel a little better about the safety of it. Mostly though, I think I feel better about that it actually is going to sleep. I could see in a James situation where he would prefer to leave it in slate mode. I personally like rotating the screen.

  • PS. I always use the P1610 in slate mode, very rarely ever using it in laptop mode. I can easily monitor tracking devices, and page through notes in OneNote while tailing a subject, or arriving at a surveillance location.
