Not just for independant workers. Our entire company operates our offices (in 28 countries around the world) in a similar "Hotel-ing" environment. No one has a permanant desk, CEO included, and anyone can make a reservation, via phone or online, at any office for the time you need. Currently within your home office I can enable GrandCentral-esque functionality to have calls forwarded to my current desk extension. When we roll-out MS Communicator this functionality becomes global.

I will tell you the truth I gave my office away to a coworker and started working off-site. Since I visit at up to 3-4 clients in one day it did not seem logical to keep a space for my scant office supplies, a desk and a chair that collected dust. Furthermore, when I was in the office i really did not get anything done. The distractions were horrendous, from ringing phones to coworkers, chattering, sitting in my office talking aimlessly, to the looks and stares of people peeping in my doorway because I was actually in the office. I have been happy ever since. I tried to set up an office from home and it works out, but there are times when even my wife (and I love her dearly) can contribute as a work distraction. Then wehn my son gets home from school, the work environment is totally broken. I will usually work in the car when I can as well as my local Starbucks, and with my Sprint Air Card anywhere is my office depending on where i want to be at that time. I applaud these collective's especially since I have even toyed with renting a studio apartment as a work place away from home and work. But with having to pay for gas, electric, water, etc; this option quickly becomes a luxury. I think I will have to look into opening something like this where I cam, maybe I can not only benefit my needs, but also others who are in the same boat as I am.
