Sadly, BlueAnt's pre-configured calling commands/positions limit the V1 from being a great fit with the iPhone 3G. None of the included earbuds provide good seal/fit. While the sound technology is cutting-edge, the earbud technology is outdated.

While the Voice Control features work really well, BlueAnt chose to pre-populate the first five voice-activated speed dial positions with voicemail/home/office/favorite/GOOG-411... meaning you have to speak those very phrases to dial your first four iPhone calling favorites and the fifth GOOG-411 entry overrides your phone's fifth favorite and cannot be changed. The decision to configure the V1 presets this way seems like a marketing choice and not a well thought out engineering choice. Simply configuring Speed Dial 1, Speed Dial 2, Speed Dial 3, etc, would have been far more functional and adaptable for most users.

Obvious to U.S. iPhone owners is that they don't need the voicemail retrieval entry, since they have Visual Voicemail, and since they have Google Maps app and Google Search app they really don't need an unchangeable GOOG-411 overriding their 5th favorite entry. The iPhone has such a nicely accessible interface for phone number favorites, it's a shame to have them pushed out of the way by a BlueAnt/Google contractual agreement.

BlueAnt ought to provide a firmware update to move the GOOG-411 down to the 9th speed dial position and just add normal voice prompts for positions 1-8. I think users of all types of phones would be lot happier.

Geoffrey, have you tried the version 1.1 firmware upgrade for the Z9i? It is now available on the BlueAnt website.

I emailed my contact at BlueAnt Tech Support re Multipoint for the V1. He hasn't answered, but someone from there has, confirming the V1 lacks Multipoint. As Dave Zaltz mentioned, neither does the new Jawbone 2. Strange that these pricey headsets don't. Not a big deal if you only use 1 phone, but a big deal for someone like me who has 2 or sometimes even 3 phones with me. I really like the voice activation, but the lack of Multipoint is a show stopper for me unfortunately.

I also have a Z9i and am rather disappointed. The connection is staticky, I'm unable to pair with more than three devices, even though specifications say five are possible, and my call to BlueAnt support resulted in leaving voicemail and no call back. I'm looking at other headsets now and cannot recommend them as a company.

Hi Genghis,

in regards to your query about multi-point for the V1, this feature is not supported on the V1 nor is on the fly switching.
I hope this helps.

I bought the Z9 specifically for multipoint. That feature worked well when I had multiple handsets. Unfortunately it was always a staticky connection and I replaced it with a Jawbone. And that it turn upset me - premium price, but no multipoint? I'm on a Jabra BT8040 now. V1 looks nice - voice control is a long overdue and very useful feature. But I wonder about the reception based on my last go 'round.

EDITED, wears the spell checker when you need it.
James thanks for the video. As a HTC advantage/T-mobile AMEO user I would be all over this if it had a vibration function, a feature I truly miss in the AMEO. This sweet little headset could be in my shirt pocket/ or even in my pants pocket with the phone in my man bag because as an Archos music lover I've always got my Ultimate Ears Superbase headphones plugged into my Archos so I can often miss a call. I was toying with a Bluetooth vibration bracelet for £29 but I'm not so keen on that plastic jewellery, a semiprecious or even precious metals would have been better don't you think? Anyway look forward to your iPhone compatibility review & keep up the good work, you guys rock!

Pairing and Multipoint are different. Multipoint enables a Bluetooth headset to be active (as opposed to merely paired) with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. By active, when a call comes in, the headset "knows" which handset is ringing and will connect to that phone automatically. Of course, the headset can't be so connected to two handsets at the same time. For example, I use my BT headset to speak on my iPhone, hang up, my BlackBerry rings, I use my BT headset to answer the call on my BlackBerry, hang up, iPhone rings, use the BT headset to answer that call, etc. With just pairing but no Multipoint, I have to disconnect phone #1 from the headset (still paired but not connected) before I can use phone #2. Does that clarify?

What do you mean by MultiPoint? It will pair with 8 phones simultaneously if that's what you mean. Then you can connect to a given phone just by turning it on.
