Symbian still the biggest in the phone world

So902iWe hear a lot about the iPhone and its App Store and even Windows Mobile is getting in the act with their own app store.  It’s important not to overlook the fact that Symbian is still the largest mobile phone platform with a staggering 39.5% of the global handset market.  As for those app stores you might be surprised to hear that there are over 9,800 apps for the Symbian platform.  Symbian is the OS behind the Nokia handsets among others and to forget about it is asking for trouble.  GigaOM has the details of the latest sales figures from Symbian.  If you’re looking for a touch phone that’s not an iPhone take a look at this overview penned for GigaOM recently.
