jkOnTheRun Geek Session- Skype video on the MSI Wind
We always get asked how good a given netbook handles Skype video calls so Kevin and I jumped online and shot this very short example of Skype on the MSI Wind I must say that from my end the video quality is the best I have seen on any netbook by far. Kevin had my video in Skype playing in a full window on his end and the MSI Wind handled that with ease. Take a look and see what you think. I was in the local coffee shop when we chatted and no doubt you can hear that in the background as it was very loud even for me.

Kevin’s sound quality not good. Sounds like he is a long way away from the mic.
Shawn, I agree. I’m going to pull this video temporarily (but not the post) and we’ll be recording another one very shortly. I’ll then embed the new video to replace the old one. Due to the background noise, you’re only getting to see one-half of the Skype experience, i.e.: the video. The integrated mic of the MSI Wind isn’t well represented, so we’ll do new vid from the home offices. Thanks!
I can definitely vouch for the quality of the MSI Wind, cam and mic. Have used it for US – Europe Skpye video and for Ustream broadcasts too without any problems.
Intel might have done too good a job with Atom. Take the Asus N10 for example. A 10″ laptop with HDMI, PCIExpress, high quality speakers, discreet GPU, high quality materials…and Atom inside!
Steve.
I hate to be a “negative nellie” but Kevin’s audio quality is not nearly as good as what I usually hear on your skype chats.
Is it expected that the quality wont be quite as good because you are using a netbook?
i get jealous everytime i see these videos, must be nice to make a living sitting in your office & driving back/forth to the coffee shop.
Kevin, James, I’m incredibly lucky to have come across this video before I went out and bought myself an Acer Aspire. I’d made my mind up that it was the netbook for me but considering that Skype Video is going to be one of my most used applications I’m amazed to hear that you felt it gave a very poor experience. Have you tested the Dell Inspiron Mini with Skype Video yet?
