Lenovo_x200t_0222gThe Tablet world got great news this past week as Lenovo officially rolled out the new x200t Tablet PC.  The x200 is the replacement for the popular x61 Tablet that Lenovo produced a good while ago.  The new x200 has some new innovations and features that insure it will be popular among the inking set.  Warner Crocker of GottaBeMobile has an x200 (without touch) and has produced a first look video of the Tablet that is worth checking out by those with an interest.  Laptop Magazine has evaluated the dual touch model of the x200t and has published a full review of the new Tablet and like what they see in the new model.

Pricedat $2,323, the ThinkPad X200 Tablet is yet another excellent businessmachine from Lenovo. It contains all of the security, durability, andperformance you’d expect from the company, in addition to smooth tabletfunctionality. If you prefer pen inputs complementing your normalkeyboard strokes, this tablet makes for a compelling choice.

Laptop Magazine is reporting that the dual digitizer mode is much improved over the x61 with the touch digitizer offering a light feel.  Lenovo has also improved the auto-switching between touch and active digitizers with the touch mode turning off when the pen gets within 3/4 inch of the screen.

  • James, convertibles are hardly tablets. And at 1.3 inches thick & 4 pounds hardly usable as a slate. The reality is tablets ARE just a vista feature and there is almost no slate development whatsoever. Form factor is everything. An 8 x 11 inch i-phone form factor tablet is what the world is waiting for but doesn’t yet know it needs. Other than Apple, hardware manufacturers are chasing declining revenue curves with cheap netbooks and commodity products. Perhaps the irex is expensive but I will definitely look closely at it as it at least is innovative. Most of the hardware we see is derivative at best. I’ve always thought of great hardware as the killer app not software. There is a scarcity of both.

  • Unless they improved the Vista installation over the X61T, then this tablet will be worthless. Vista implementation on the X61T was so abysmal, that the machine was useless. I returned mine within 30 days because it was so bad. All the additional hardware features are useless if the software runs like a dog –

  • I have to agree with Lee.

I wiped Vista off my X61t after struggling to make it respond as fast as my ancient hp tc1100.

Once I installed XP Tablet on it, it flew. Like night and day.

Luckily I still have that MSDN membership with downloads for XP Tablet…
