jkOnTheRun video- Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook
I just received the hot new Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook yesterday but due to high demand I just had to get a video of it so here you go. The Lenovo S10 is a 10-inch netbook and the unit I have is running a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, has 1 GB of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth, a 160 GB HDD and sports a multi-touch trackpad. In the video you’ll see the S10 in all its glory and watch it performing common tasks like running Firefox and using the Explorer. You’ll also see me demonstrate how well the multi-touch trackpad works in Firefox and for manipulating images. Take a look at the video and let us know what you think in the comments.
UPDATE: the button on top of the keyboard that I indicated in the video I didn’t know what it was for actually runs the OneKey recovery system from Lenovo.

Its killing him to even say how many cells the S10’s battery has.
He wants the S10’s Expresscard slot but knows he’ll be getting the six cell minus the slot. Because let’s face it: loaded expresscard slot + 3 cell battery equals too short runtime. Six cell + USB modem equals long run time.
That “beep” every time you plugged the thing in or out would drive me nuts.
Just order a Mini-Note. You know you want to.

Can you comment on the ultra high temps on keyboard and bottom that I’ve read about?
Agree with the guy who recommends the mininote – better build quality, higher res screen, comes with 6-cell battery, 2.5″ hard drive, card slot, runs XP fine and is still available for $629.

Any chance you can get someone at lenovo to tell you when we’ll actually be able to buy the config they sent you? Also, it would be great to get the date when they’ll release a six cell battery…
I have asked Lenovo for the information about the 6-cell battery and waiting for word from them on availability.
Is it possible to disable the audible sound when plugging in/unplugging the ac power?

Luis, I don’t have one but that noise is standard across all IBM/Lenovo laptops – my friend had it on his T61p, and my old IBM from 2002 has it too.
As I recall, it could be turned off either from BIOS or from the power app on the device.
I’ve got two questions – first did Lenovo put the whole load of IBM apps on this device? Also, how warm does it get – some reviews were complaining about the heat from the S10.
Royce, my unit had no crapware but then it’s an evaluation unit, not a retail one. I do believe the beep can be disabled in the BIOS, I’ll check that.
I don’t find the S10 getting hot at all and I use it in my lap wearing shorts a lot.
How about an update on the S10 – keyboard, battery life, likes, dislikes? An inquiring mind wants to know pre purchase.

Any word on the 6-cell battery? This one factor is a make-or-break for me. I am choosing between this and the eeepc 1000, and the S10 is definitely the more attractive choice.

This crossed the s10 of my list for sure. My core duo thinkpad gets better battery life than that!! I swear this is legit too check her id number!

FYI, if you want to buy 6-cell battery for Lenovo, you need to buy it OUTSIDE the USA because Lenovo are based in China, and they are NOT going to stock any of 6-Cell battery in USA. You can buy it in HK, China, or other Country. They don’t care about US market as much as other country (USA people NO $$??). I have disable the beep sound in sound manager in XP professional.

can you tell me best way to upgrade or get xp professional on the s10 which comes with xp home? could it be done from a flash usb drive with xp pro/sp3 files from cd on it? or must use external cd drive?
What is going on? Can’t get this in the UK. Unclear about 6-cell battery availability. Could jkontherun do a feature update on the Lenovo S10
I feel like this entire review could have been finished in 8 minutes with preparation and some effort to remain concise without losing any information. 20 minutes is really just too long.
