T-Mobile sells over 1.5 million G1 Android phones
We have seen the big buzz over the first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1. We heard the stories about the difficulty getting a pre-shipment order in to T-Mobile. The only thing we could assume was that Google, HTC and T-Mobile were making as many G1s as they could because the orders were flying fast and furious. How fast? Word is now out that over 1.5 million units have been sold, and that before anyone in that big crowd has even seen a G1 in person. That tells you how excited people are getting over Android. Add 2 million units that are reported to hit retail stores this month to that 1.5 million in sales and the G1 could be even bigger than that fruity phone.

Until T-Mobile releases the number, I’m calling BS. I seriously doubt 1.5 million have been pre-ordered.

Why would you add it? If these are pre-orders doesn’t the 1.5M come from the 2M hitting the shelves? In any case, hitting the shelves != sold.
Not trying to be gloom and doom, but this article is a bit confusing to say the least.
Woohoo, I’m excited over this phone, lack of 3.5mm jack notwithstanding.
I am sure Google will quickly overtake the number of iphones sold, but this 1.5 million plus 2 million number comes from a website that is called fool.com you get it? fool.com as in.. you got fooled.
Those figures came from engadget who was referring to Pulse2.0. They were quoting The Motley Fool (fool.com) who is a respected source. No one can say for sure if those numbers are solid but they do reflect what we have heard about presales being high.

I read the Motley Fool article. My concern was that it might just be some industry analyst or an alleged Google/HTC/T-Mobile leak.

I don’t think they will over take the iPhone anytime soon. I just read that WalMart will soon be selling the iPhone, that should bump up total annual iPhone sales significantly. I predict iPhones sales will be in the tens of millions annually and be increasing for the next few years at least. However, you can never doubt the power of Google, they are an awesome company and Google Maps and YouTube has transformed the way many use the internet these days.
That’s definitely an amazing number of phones to have sold on preorders and it really proves that those excited comments on various reviews of the G1 were really from people intending to buy the device.
