MSI Wind BIOS update available: let the overclocking begin
I don’t know if Kevin has applied this or not but a new BIOS update is now available for the MSI Wind that adds some pretty cool features along with the upgrades we normally expect from such beasts. This official BIOS update enables overclocking the CPU at those times when performance is critical. Said overclocking is achieved simply by the Fn+F10 combo and toggles among three different clock speeds (8, 15, 24% bumps). We’ll have to weigh in with Kevin to see how the update works on his Wind.

UPDATE: there is an excellent tutorial and review of the update on the Electric Vagabond.

Sounds like they re-enabled a tweaked version of the Turbo function that they originally had and then removed.

I’ll have to see what the performance gains are when compared to expected battery life decrease.
sweet! i’ll be flashing tonight!
A guy in a brown truck just dropped off a 6 cell wind a few minutes ago. I think i might ghost over the image I have on my 3 cell. Then update the BIOS on one of them and see the side to side performance difference.
Combine the over clocking with the new 9 cell battery found at lion battery for pre-order…

Eats away the mobility a little bit though.
Another nice development for the MSI Wind, a very easy use to use tool has been created to patch the bios to swap the functions of the FN and Ctrl keys. It’s also easily reversible, check it out: http://forums.msiwind.net/post50560.html#p50560
This was a major annoyance for many people, I think this is a great fix.
Hey James thanks for the link. Just letting everyone know as it states in my guide the overclock only works on AC Power. When you press Fn+F10 on battery power it enable eco mode which underclocks the CPU by half to 800MHz. So battery life isn’t a concern for the overclock mode because when on battery it simply isn’t an option.
