Windows Mobile patch released to fix email problem

Wm_logoIt was recently divulged that Windows Mobile 6.1 had a bug that came into effect when carriers did not specify a secondary smtp server in their ROM builds.  It seems that WM 6.1 would corrupt the user’s email database in this event so severely that it could not be fixed.  The only solution was to totally rebuild the smartphone with a clean WM install.  Today Microsoft released a patch to prevent this problem from occurring so you’d better go get it if you’re running 6.1.

  • I’ve never encountered such an issue, so I can’t help but wonder… which carrier screwed things up by not providing one, and who has been bitten by it?

  • This I have experienced. forums at xda-developers.com has threads about it for months now (including my posts). Various kind of email corruptions not seen before!

If I set up more than 1 POP or IMAP email accounts then it’s likely to have problems after a couple of weeks!

Another unrelated problem is Hotmail (which doesn’t use POP or IMAP natively) gets corrupted as well and said won’t sync / log in completely.

  • My windows mobile phone became totally unusable this week, after some issues where it was not correctly updating email over the weekend. I’ve got one exchange connection, one hotmail connection, and one gmail imap connection setup.

I’m close to the point of reloading the rom from scratch, but have been putting it off. I dont know if this problem is what bit me, but I didn’t make any changes on my phone in the past few weeks.

    I’ve got a T-Mobile Dash loaded with a 6.1 rom from XDA.
