Another tiny notebook from UMID

A tiny clamshell UMPC has appeared from UMID that reminds me of the uber-small Fujitsu U810.  The Korean device has a 4.8-inch screen and a bunch of connectivity options including WiBro, WiMAX, HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth for starters.  Couple all of that with a 1.33 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of SSD storage and this is a true little beast.  It’s a bit too small for me but to each his own and I’m sure it will appeal to many due to it’s cuteness.

  • James, I would love to know the dimensions. I too loved the Psion like Brian and want a full PC that is about 7.5″ x 4″ x 1″ and has a well designed keyboard like the Psion provided. Is this going to be available for purchase outside of Korea?

  • SSD… Yuck… We should all know that Windows dosen’t make an SSD option viable due to the amount of hard disk utilisation it requires. SSD requires too much power to erase blocks (a massive 10 Volts created by a Charge Pump (aka capacitor) which also needs time to charge up this seriously reducing re-write speed) + the fact that a block would only be good for about 10,000 re-writes which could be achieved in as little as 2 years with the rate that windows utilises its page file). It is my belief that in a few years time their will be massive complaints over the net about how unreliable older SSD’s are in comparison to HDD’s.
