Dell sales told me today (god their phone service is awful) that no XP is forthcoming with the Mini 12. I’m hoping that Nate was speaking from an inside source?

Okay, so I’ve heard that it shipped with Windows Vista because the Poulsbo support isn’t there for XP yet. With no XP drivers on Intel’s website I assume it is…

I’ve also heard that Poulsbo so far doesn’t really fulfil its promise (driver issues?) as far as power utilization OR video playback acceleration. jkkmobile says it can’t even handle 720p video playback, which the existing N-series Atom’s can.

Any comment?

I’m mostly concerned about 4200 HDD. That hard drive can make any laptops dog slow.

Dell shouldn’t have bothered to release this model with only 1 GB and Vista. They should have insisted on XP or nothing.

Vance – XP and Ubuntu will be available on the Mini 12 in December. Until about a month ago, Microsoft would not license XP for systems over 10 inches, hence Vista at launch.

I don’t think this pricing is going to fly.

The size and price of this thing is getting dangerously close to regular low end notebooks, but it’s seriously lacking on the features. Heck, Dell has the Inspiron 13, which is no tank itself, that goes for not much more than this machine.

You can get the Dell XT starting at $720 refurbished, making this Dell Mini 12 more ridiculously priced.

LOL at a Vista-powered netbook. Nice try Dell. If you weren’t such a whore for Microsoft, I’d actually consider this device. Sure has a nice design.
