Apple now recommends anti-virus used on Macs
What the…?? In spite of what we’ve heard for years, even in Apple’s own "I’m a Mac" ads, the Cupertino firm is now officially recommending the usage of anti-virus software by all Mac owners. That’s the suck! To be fair the Washington Post points out that this is largely due to risk from user-downloaded malware and not the kind that worms its way into your Mac by clandestine means. The Post article also has a list of recommended utility software to protect your shiny Mac. Me, I blame this whole thing on the Simpsons.
It was bound to happen sooner then later.
Since the OS that is in the Mac is also used by the iPhone, does this mean the iPhone needs more protection ??? Safe Computing is getting harder all the time. The only way to be truely safe is to become one with the OFF button, not a practical solution.
Just thought it was fair to point out that the Apple article was originally posted in June, 2007, and is not a new Apple release. Their stance on antivirus products is nothing new and was just taken out of context and picked up and blown out of proportion by various “other sites.”

i think this true generally. i don’t think i’ve ever had a worm or virus on my windows machine that i didn’t put there. (and i only put one there once!)
LMAO… I saw the Simpsons episode on Sunday night and thought it was hilarious and quite accurate of the reality.
Oh and btw, I find it equally amusing that the original Apple.com post about needing antivirus software is now “missing” …
@Andy T – no. Maybe if your phone is jailbroken but the iPhone is locked down tighter than, err, some tights.
