I don't have anything unusual other than I have ran Xitami web server on my Acer Aspire One netbook. It did well. I use my netbook for all of my computing needs. I take a lot of photos and it is great to be able to pull out my netbook out of my backpack and upload them to my netbook. I use MS Office 2003 Pro and I use Visio also. This little computer is fantastic. I like the 8.9" (9 inch) screen. I also use my Acer Aspire One with a portable Canon USB powered scanner to scan documents for work. Love this little machine!

I installed a full enterprise edition of Oracle Database along with Oracle Developments tools. I was able to run few Oracle applications and to develop Oracle Oracle Forms and Reports with no problems.

I am looking at the Acer netbook as a replacement for my old Dell laptop. I use the Dell to playback MIDI files I have imported and edited in Cakewalk Home Studio 2002. Is anyone running Cakewalk Home Studio on one if the N270 processor netbooks? I am getting conflicting input from all of the salespeople at Best Buy, Comp USA, Staples and other computer outlets as to the N270's power to handle this type of work. Thanks in advance for any help.

I use mine to sit in cafes and coffee shops and work on scripts, screenplays, note taking, story boarding, and other things you see trendy people doing in cafes and coffee shops. Now that I possibly sound cool let me ruin that mystique by adding that I use it when playing D&D, whether I am DM-ing of a friend is, for the DM to access the wealth of reference info online and that I scanned. It even fits behind the DM screen. Yeah, I'm a nerd...

I found this while trying to read about how the HP mini 1000 works with Lightroom:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157608992454223/

I'd say that would be pretty hardcore.

I want to sell my quickly aging 3 year old Dell e1405 and purchase a HP mini 1000... is that a horrible idea? I know it will hold it's value longer, and my Dell is already too slow for extensive photo editing.

Probably the strangest thing was to run an emulated N800 through Scratchbox to test out the software I write for the Nokia Internet Tablet... That, and actually cross compiling the software, but I thought running a mobile device emulator on another mobile device is kinda funny :) It's useful to be able to do it on another mobile device with a nice keyboard (the Acer Aspire One's keyboard is superb, better than some laptop keyboards I've used) so I can develop while watching the little one sleep.

That, and playing old DOS games on Dosbox, but that was mentioned already.

I've given PowerPoint presentations, taken notes on the slides, and emailed them (via Lotus Notes) to the participants as I was walking back to my office.

While my small laptop - an OQO 02 - is not normally considered a netbook, the only component that is more powerful than some netbooks is the screen. Oh, and it's smaller and lighter - about half the size and half the weight of many netbooks.

I use my netbook to update my calendar when I'm not at my desk. It's an offline calendar called Calgoo Desktop, which offers a sync service that keeps my netbook calendar in sync with my desktop; but if my Net access is unavailable, I've still got my calendar. This replaced a Windows Mobile solution that wasn't really working.

I have bought 9 (with permitations of the same brand) and with 14 umpc's and 5 mid devices 31 pda's they form the basis of my "stamp" collection... much to my wife's dismay!

i don't do anything out of the ordinary with my netbook. since i don't have a desktop or a laptop, i do all my personal and work-related tasks on my Gigabyte M912 Tablet Netbook. maybe one thing out of the ordinary i do is scribbling notes on its swiveling touchscreen which most netbooks don't have.

I've used both of my EEEs 701 and 1000H for making few commercial ASP.net based websites on the go. I use VS 2005 for that.

I have also done video editing on the 1000H and it is quite adequate for it. 1000H is little heavy to carry around though (1.5kg), but then you are carrying a full-featured netbook with awesome battery life.

And did I mention that I've edited office docs in the kitchen? You won't want to put your big notebook on the kitchen's slab. Would you? ;)

My Aspire One is currently working as a Video Streaming Server with an attached USB DTV key to stream Webcam, Live TV, Recorded TV, Music, ... to my iPhone 3G while I'm on the run. This works pretty fine over Edge, 3G and WiFi thanks to the Orb Server installed on the Aspire and the Orb Live client on the iPhone. The Atom processor manage video streaming with no problems. So looks like we can use a netbook even as a server/slingbox (UPS included).

I purchased a HP 2133 Mini Note back in October, you can read my review on it at my blog:

http://lgponthemove.blogspot.com/

My main use for this HP netbook was to get a full-featured portable multimedia device. I use Cool Edit Pro for audio recording. The stereo line-in jack is great for feeding in an external analog audio source, or I can use the stereo mixer to record off the web. VOB files play back off the 2.5 inch hard drive using WinDVD easily, and the 1280 screen plays back High-Def 720p content beautifully. The standard 2.5 inch drive size means I can get 500GB of storage.

Another vital use for my 2133 mini note is being a mobile communications device. The webcam/mic lets me chat using msn with family/friends/contacts anywhere, I can log on and check emails, surf the web, keep a heads up on my finances and pay all my bills.

It works great to connect with my digital camera in the field, downloading photos and editing them on-site. Likewise, I can connect my camcorder in the field and download video footage to my netbook as it happens.

Once on my netbook, my broadband card allows me to connect to my blog and upload photos/videos to my blog as it happens. The outstanding keyboard on the 2133 mini note allows me to maintain my blog easily and effortlessly any time and from anywhere I may happen to be working.

Finally, I use mt mini note with apps like office, google earth, windows media encoder for audio/video, microsoft streets/trips with GPS, and for when I'm bored, fire up Hoyle Casino for some Blackjack/Poker action.

Connect my portable DVD burner, and I can burn data discs, home videos and music CD's at home or in the field. With a portable HP printer, even printing documents/photo proofs is doable away from the desk. Likewise, I've got an express card eSATA adapter, allowing me to create fast full-system backups to my external RAID hard drive.

As I said in my blog, if a great notebook can replace a desktop, there's no reason a great netbook cannot replace a notebook.

And for me, the HP 2133 Mini note is exactly that, a great netbook.

Finally, I use mt mini note with apps like office, google earth, windows media encoder for audio/video, microsoft streets/trips with GPS, and for when I’m bored, fire up Hoyle Casino for some Blackjack/Poker action.

Connect my portable DVD burner, and I can burn data discs, home videos and music CD’s at home or in the field. With a portable HP printer, even printing documents/photo proofs is doable away from the desk. Likewise, I’ve got an express card eSATA adapter, allowing me to create fast full-system backups to my external RAID hard drive.

As I said in my blog, if a great notebook can replace a desktop, there’s no reason a great netbook cannot replace a notebook.
