Thank you J&K for pointing me in the right direction. I have read and listened to your experiences putting OS X on Atom based machines and now wonder if you've done any benchmark comparisons - or just impressions - of the Atom vs native Apple hardware? I am wondering, for example, if performance is similar to a G4 which for me is quite adequate. Also, as I researched your site it led me to others and I thought you might be interested in this bit of speculation about an Apple netbook (and I apologize if this is old news to you). http://www.pcworld.com/article/154437/cheap_apple_netbook.html?tk=rss_news

Richard, Vista on the Via processor does not run as snappy as XP on the Atom. Also, the Via processor does not support installing OS X the last I checked while the Atom does.

Richard, we have several reviews of Atom devices as well as VIA ones here on the site. A quick search or a tap of our Reviews tab at the top of the page might offer some additional info. I can tell you that if you plan to use OS X on netbook, you'll be able to do so with an Intel Atom device, but not a VIA-powered unit.

This deal on an HP from CompUSA: a 2gb, 120gb HDD with Vista for $399 and very little shipping:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3839833&sku=H24-KX870&SRCCODE=COMEM154C&cm_mmc=Email-_-CyberMonday2-_-COMEM154-_-CyberMonday2

I am curious about the comparison of the Atom (in the Aspire) vs the VIA (in the HP) CPUs. Any clear winner between the two? And which might be more suitable for creating an OS X machine? Thanks!
