Nokia’s WiMAX Internet Tablet Going Away?

Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition

Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition

This doesn’t bode well for WiMAX, which doesn’t have a ton of device support yet and really can’t afford to lose current support. MobileBurn indicates that Nokia is ending the life of the N810 WiMAX Edition Internet Tablet. In my opinion, the product was way ahead of it’s time, simply because it arrived months before the usable connectivity did.

Now one product loss surely isn’t going to kill off WiMAX here in the U.S, but this isn’t sitting well with me. We’ll check in with Nokia to get some official word and thoughts, if this is indeed true. What’s interesting to me is how we heard so much about WiMAX-ready devices at last year’s CES, but most of those plans haven’t panned out yet.

I never knew I could buy it.

i did, now i’m regretting it big time.

Wimax isn’t available in enough areas to make it relevant.

I had an N800 and liked it quite a bit, but it died at a pretty young age. Then I got the N810. While the design seems like an upgrade, the device has been worthless. Nothing works quite like it should. Software upgrades rarely work, they just make it worse. It’s more like an Alpha rather than a Beta let alone a product that ought to have been released into the wild. Since netbooks have come out it really doesn’t have much to offer.
