Sexy Android phone, General Mobile DSTL1 ready for action
We’ve been predicting (and waiting for) the appearance of numerous Android-based phones and a very sweet one from General Mobile seems ready for lift-off. This sleek keyboard-less iPhone-esque Android phone (DSTL1) made by Sharp certainly looks very nice and is expected to be announced next month at the Mobile World Congress in Spain. The specs are nice:
- Dual-SIM cards with dual-Standby mode
- 624MHz Marvell PXA 310 processor
- Tri-band GSM/EDGE support (900/1800/1900MHz)
- 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, 260k colors
- WiFi
- Bluetooh
- 135g (4.75oz), 112 x 54 x 16mm (4.4 x 2.1 x .6 inches)
- 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash (made by Sharp)
Yes, the DSTL1 is said to handle two SIMs making it true global in proportions. Let’s hope we see this baby introduced earlier than Q3 as predicted.

Entertaining. Also quite interesting — the full product name for this phone is “DSTL1 Imaginary”. Setting the stage for vaporware jokes, I guess, similar to that “Phantom” game console.
@JK — your blog post (and maybe your original source as well… I didn’t follow the link) says the phone is made by Sharp. The product page from General Mobile only says that the camera and the touch screen are “Sharp brand”.

Hmm, reading this again, did I see this right? This is NOT a 3G phone (just EDGE)? What were they thinking?
android is very disappointing atm. seems like something that might blow up in 3 months unless something radical happens. next month in the mobile event it is going to be evident if we get to see more mainstream hardware or just 3rd grade manufacturers chasing the wind.
An open handset OS is going to happen eventually but only in a few years. The prerequisite there in my humble opinion is hardware standardization as we have with PCs. Till then only Palm and Apple type of hardware-software bundles are going to be a winning solution.
