I've installed Win7 on my 2133 - both the RC and now the RTM.

Unfortunately it does not recognise the inbuilt SD Card reader.

Has anyone else had a problem with it or what drivers have you used?

Thanx in advance...

James, can you please explain how you went from mounting the drive as persistent and getting a fresh install? I used the Virtual CD to mount the drive, but then what? If I just run setup from the mounted drive, it does an update rather than fresh install. If I reboot, it doesn't allow me to boot from the mounted drive and hence do a fresh install. Are you running the virtual CD software from the SD/USB? Apologies for the questions, but am trying to get this sorted. Many thanks.

Awsome review. I just loaded windows 7 onto my old laptop with only 512 mb of ram. I am amazed how fast it runs. Have you tried running mac os x on this awsome device. If not, please do.

You have some valuable insight into the HP 2140. In fact, your reviews tipped me over the edge to get one. I get it in a couple of weeks. I found out from HP that custom configs come from China, and they are currently closed for a week due to Chinese New Year. I should get it on 2/13/2009. Can't wait.

I've ordered the 2140 with Vista Home installed and plan on blowing it away and install Windows 7. I'm hoping it will be arriving next Tuesday. Since I have not seen this unit in person I hope I'm going to like the size. After using a MacBook Pro 15" the size might be an issue for me.

Thanks for this post as I was trying to find a solution to installing Windows 7 via USB or SD.

I ran both Vista and XP on the 2133 back when I evaluated one and based on my current experience of Win7 on Atom-based netbooks I think it should run as good as XP on the 2133. I look forward to your thoughts on that if you load it.

Rick, I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised in general, although I haven't run Win 7 on a VIA CPU.

I'm also planning to take Windows 7 for a spin on my HP 2133, which is DOG-slow running Vista. It'll be interesting to see the results.

James, have you encountered any bugs yet?

I've been using W7 full-time on my desktop since it came out a few weeks ago and I've encountered many bugs and some big show stopping ones. (I linked to my article)

W7 is fine on my S101 just because I only do a few things on it.

to Alan: On my 2133, I went from Vista to Win 7, and it was much quicker. Even with all the flashy visual stuff (Aero) enabled it still worked well.

I put Win 7 on my 2133, using an even easier method from this link: http://www.intowindows.com/installing-windows-7-without-using-dvdusb-drive-method-2/

Basically, download the iso, then mount the file using Virtual Clone Drive, then double click on the .iso file. Presto, its done, and no messing with USB drives or SD cards.
