Mobile Tech Minutes: What’s on my desktop?
done
A lot of folks ask what programs/utilities I use every day, so this video is a quick look at the apps I have running all the time. It’s not a comprehensive list of everything I use, but it includes the tools that are almost always running while I’m working at my desk.

James,
Please change the battery in your smoke alarm.
(beep … beep …)
Thanks for the desktop demo.
James,
Do you use vmware fusion with spaces having win7 on the second space?
Thanks
Good luck on that request, Gordon. I’ve been making the same on a regular basis for months. I think I might mail a pack of batteries to Mobile Tech Manor!
JK told me a while ago its his home burglar alarm making the beep, that would drive me nuts hearing that all day. No wonder he needs to go on vacation to get away from the incessant beeping!!
Deja vu from Merlin Mann’s tour of his Mac desktop: http://vimeo.com/2831715
James, cannot view this video on the iPhone, not god for my mobile experience!
Thanks for a useful and interesting post. I ‘m fascinated by how we use technology individually. I watched it in HD really and was able to get more out of it from the clear picture.
Very nice, as already commented above, in HD it looks very good!
I’ve been wondering, what software/hardware do you use to create these presentations? And which video camera(s) do you guys use for these HD presentations?
We’re using a Kodak Zi6 camera, which captures video at 1280×720. The camera fits in a pocket and costs around $150. All output is mixed together and encoded using iMovie 08.
For screen recordings on the Mac, like the one above where James shows his desktop, we use a program called Screenium.
Thanks for the info, Kevin! I’ve seen James’ webcast about the zi6, quite an impressive little cam!
Jamie-
Looks like James was using Parallels. Looks like it works pretty much the same as Fusion, based on using Fusion and watching what James was doing here.
Yes, I used Parallels Desktop to run Windows in Spaces.
