BlackBerry Curve 8900 Hits T-Mobile: $199

blackberry-curve-89001Today might be a BOGO day for BlackBerry handsets at Verizon, but you can’t get RIM’s new BlackBerry Curve 8900 there. That new handset is available now for T-Mobile customers and we got a look-see at CES. It was so slick that James almost dropped it while we recorded a video sneak-peek.

I absolutely love the 480×360 display on this device, but if I were upgrading handsets from my first-generation iPhone, it would have to be for a 3G device. That throws the 8900 out the window right off the bat. If you can overlook EDGE and get by with Wi-Fi, $199 with a new contract and $100 rebate nabs it. A no-contract price is $499: Too rich for my blood.

The 8900 also includes integrated GPS, a 1400mAh battery, and a 3.2-megapixel camera with video recording support. How they cram all that and more into a 4.29 x 2.36 x 0.53 inch handset weighing 3.87 ounces is beyond me.

  • Well if you’re willing to wait, you’ll get your 3G version of the 8900 w/Touch for ATT; aka Magnum / 9220. Should be dropping some time 2HCY09, but wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t show up till early 09. I guess by then, the next rumored iphone would have already been dropped.

  • Or you could just get the Storm and get 3G now. :)

  • HG: you’re relentless! :) I *suspect* I won’t be doing anything until my AT&T voice contract is up in June. At that time, I’ll see what’s available and decide to stay or go to another carrier. I’d like to get a new handset now, but 20-months in on my contract combined with new handsets (Pre, other BB’s, updated iPhone, etc…) expected have me waiting.
