Push email coming from Google for the iPhone “soon”
Google has been releasing stuff right and left recently but this one much requested feature isn’t released yet, not even in beta. A Google employee let slip that Google is going to release push email for the iPhone “soon” using an “Exchange protocol”. Wouldn’t you like your GMail pushed around to your iPhone?

That is great news, and really makes sense if they have licensed Exchange ActiveSync anyway. I didn´t quite understand why they didn´t already release email push via Exchange together with Contacts and Calendar syncing. Now I do hope that this will also be available for Windows Mobile.
To quote J.J. Evans, “Dy-no-mite!”
That’s great!
So is it safe to assume that this will work with iCal, Mail and address book of snow leopard?
I am kind of hesitant to let go my hosted exchange, but if it does work with either Outlook (for my work pc) or my mac that will be awesome!
Almost better than Google offering Mail sync along with Contacts & Calendars would be Microsoft somehow making it possible for multiple Exchange clients per device; being limited to one ActiveSync setup on my iPhone is maddening.
Is there a technical obstacle to allowing multiple activesync setups or is it simply Microsoft’s licensing? Or am I being dimwitted and missing something else about it entirely?
Rock on!

thx for posting! there’s a new e-mail followup plugin for outlook called Outlook Track-It, where you can flag emails to remind you to followup. it works great.
I would like to see push email from Google and that would, for me, complete the triangle (contacts, calendar and email). However I think that’s Google’s contact management is inferior to the Windows Live offering so they have some catch up to do. Otherwise I think the Google Sync experience is on the right track!
Re: Dach – I use Outlook Track-It and it’s been good even for giving a followup reminder to the recipient. Very cool little plugin.
Outlook track-it is the best outlook ad on. as far as iPhone, there are SO many apps right now. Love them all.
