nvidia-ionA Chinese newspaper is claiming that Lenovo has signed a deal with NVidia to use their Ion platform on two netbooks over 10 inches.  While that size would stretch the netbook category, Lenovo is reported to be preparing a 11.6-inch and a 12.1-inch notebook that uses the Intel Atom processor and NVidia Ion graphics.  Neither Lenovo nor NVidia will confirm nor deny this rumor.

  • In addition, Lenovo is reportedly evaluating the possibility of launching a 13-inch Ion model, and will also launch a 12-inch netbook based on VIA Technologies’ platform, added the paper.

  • not surprising, as the rumors are the GN40 will also only be found in over 10″ netbooks. why? because the Atom/GN40 will be 16.5w compared to the typical 8w Atom/945. so 12″ – 13″ have the capability to offer much more robust batteries (& better heat dissipation).

so i’m guessing the Ion will also have relatively high power consumption.
