Computerworld- Apple Tablet to be announced tomorrow
We’ve heard rumors of an Apple tablet for years and recently those rumors have spun toward a larger iPhone-like tablet. The Apple 3.0 event is tomorrow and Computerworld’s Seth Weintraub is predicting a 10-inch iPhone-like tablet will be announced. Seth is basing that on the fact that Apple advertised late last year for someone to work with Apple’s expanded role in embedded devices. He states that when you couple that with the rumors that Apple is buying up a ton of 10-inch touch-screens then an Apple Tablet makes sense.
Weintraub makes a good point that I’m sure Kevin will agree with as he thinks that Apple will re-define the netbook market as we know it today. I know I’d love to see this too, but I just can’t see such a large tablet coming from Apple. That size slate will be hard to use with the light-touch screen of the iPhone for example, every time you brush it something will happen that you don’t want. I guess you can learn to use anything, but I don’t know about this. The only thing certain when it comes to Apple is you can’t be certain what they will pull next. :) At least we don’t have to wait very long this time. I do feel that Apple better have more in store than just copy-and-paste.

Tomorrow is about the next release of iPhone OS. The invitation makes that pretty clear.
It’s debatable whether hardware will be discuses AT ALL, let alone a new product announcement.
As usual, ridiculous rumors are building so everyone can be all disappointed when the event is over.
This is wishful thinking, and nothing more.
Time will tell….but whatever it is I’m sure there’ll be plenty to talk about tomorrow!
A ten-inch iPod/iPhone would be totally awwwsome! A gaming platform that would punk the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS platforms. An the edition of online mult-player games would be a killer application for such a device.
If this really is a 10″ iPhone, then watch out Mr. Kindle.
I’m sure Mr. Bezos would be thrilled since it is the content and not the device that is the driver for Amazon and Amazon owns the content.
While I have no idea what Apple will present tomorrow, I will say this. The fact that they are stepping on the gas pedal and pushing 3.0, while the new kids on the block (read: Android and Palm Pre) are barely 1.0 suggests that they have learned the lessons taught them oh so painfully by Microsoft in the PC wars; namely, that he who wins the hearts and minds of developers, wins the war.
As to the App Store side of the equation, I have put a lot of thought into what that means from a competitive advantage perspective, and blogged about it in:
iPhones, App Stores and Ecosystems (http://bit.ly/Hre72)
Check it out if interested.
Cheers.

Yes but when 1.0 of palm and android are ahead of 3.0 from the iphone you realize the number of the software OS doesn’t make it more advanced.
It’s funny how the possible release of cut and paste, a feature on other smartphones for years and years, is heralding such a positive response. Almost as if Apple invented copy and paste. Jeez I’d settle for A2DP at this point.
Back on topic. I bet an Apple tablet would be a great piece of hardware. First thing I would do would be install Win7 on it just as I have on my Macbook though.
