BlackBerrys Gain Two More Streaming Radio Apps
With all of the iPhone 3.0 and Palm Pre talk, let’s send one out to the BlackBerry fans, shall we? Two new audio streaming services have made their way to the ‘Berry says Zatz Not Funny! Both are free, but only one is familiar to me because I use it on a daily basis. I’m talking about Pandora, the intelligent music platform that catalogs the DNA of songs and uses that database of info to ensure you only hear songs you like. I listen to Pandora all day in the home office and on my iPhone when I’m out, since it works surprisingly well on EDGE. Pandora is supported on the Curve, Bold and Pearl, but it varies by carrier, so check and see if your BlackBerry can use it. T-Mobile customers need not apply for some reason; sorry Om, your beloved new 8900 gets no official love here.
iheartradio is a second option available today, especially if you want traditional radio stations on your BlackBerry. The free software comes from and supports stations on the ClearChannel network and offers radio from 150 different channels across the U.S. iheartradio is supported on the same three models while Storm support is listed as coming soon.
ClearChannel also offers iPhone support for iheartradio, something I haven’t tried yet but will later today. Now if we could somehow get these streaming services to buffer on the iPhone, I’d be really happy. Slacker, a similar audio streaming service, lets you disconnect from their service but still listen due to buffered audio unless you’re using an iPhone.

well, i tried to visit the site and download the app for my blackberry bold, and it tells me that they think i am from canada and can’t have it.. this after i enter my phone number and have them send me a link via a text.. i am in georgia, with the accent to prove it..
that would be the pandora site, by the way..
Pandora sounds pretty decent via A2DP on iPhone 3.0.
FYI, Works fine on T-Mobile. Just visit http://www.pandora.com from your phone to download.
Good to know, thanks! Perhaps it’s just not “officially” supported and tested at this time. Either way: good news for BlackBerry owners on T-Mo.
Yes, my Pandora contact says due to multiple APNs they haven’t fully/finished tested T-Mo Blackberries. Will try it on Melissa’s 8900 tonight.
its working now.. no more canada admonishments. very cool!
I tried Pandora on my Curve 8900 via T-Mobile. It downloaded OK, but I got a Java error when I tried to install it. I deleted the app, rebooted and tried again. Same error.
I’m using an unlocked 8900 that’s not configured for AT&T or T-Mobile. I don’t know whether that’s a problem.
Perhaps I’ll try Pandora on the Bold later today. I use it on T-Mobile, but it has the AT&T 3G frequency.
