Cell Phone Carriers to Dell: Your Smartphones are too Boring
Dell has been rumored to be entering the smartphone market for a while, and rumblings as recently as January gave that rumor some teeth. The rumors had the PC giant readying both a Windows Mobile-based phone and an Android phone for release later this year. This may not happen, according to Market Watch who has uncovered that phone carriers have declined to carry the Dell phones due to a “lack of interest.”
The analyst from Kaufman Brothers that produced the research note that details this situation indicated that Dell has gone back to the drawing board to produce a smartphone that will be better received by the carriers. Dell is dependent on the U.S. carriers, as they only pick up phones they feel will recover the subsidy fees they must pay to attract customer sales.
Dell is not responding to this claim, which is not surprising, as they have never officially admitted they are working on entering the smartphone market.

Dell needs to get in on what Best Buy has. Best Buy can sell unlocked phones (like the Nokia E71 or N96) with T-Mobile contracts.
