Tried registering a Kindle with that number (wanted to purchase a Kindle magazine subscription for my Kindle on iPhone app). Can't do it, unless Kevin "deregisters" his first. Here's the message Amazon sends when you try to re-use a reg. number:

"Your Kindle can only be registered to one Amazon.com account and is currently registered to another user account. If you received this Kindle as a gift it may have been automatically registered to the person who purchased the gift for you. Before it can be registered to your account you must deregister it from the current account."

I put a sheet of clear eGrip across the entire back of my Kindle 2. Now it is easy to hold on to and doesn't slip off the top of whatever stack of stuff I am carrying it on top of.

Amazon has an insane amount of ebooks, but I'm not willing to commit to the Kindle format until they offer some sort of reading solution on computers / laptops / netbooks. I don't really care if it is a client app or web based, I just need some solution. All my other ebooks are readable that way.

>> I believe the original Kindle supported a trickle charge with USB

No, not really. More like a trickle DEcharge! Leave the kindle 1 connected to the USB for an extended period, and it will be dead! Found that out the hard way. Glad to say they corrected that.

Stubby but powerful for quickly sifting through newspapers and blogs. You can get the Amazon Daily blog for free to try it out.
