The IPHONE is severely lacking in many functions. Dropped calls. No SEARCH on Calendar – Get real…. I have yet to play with the G1 but I think it is a real contender. Palm Pro is another option. Other WinMo don’t really cut it but I haven’t looked at the HTC variants lately.

IPHONE has so much potential. Crap delivery. Seriously – no placeshifting TV?????

oh yeah and ATT works in Mexico. My Sprint connection technically worked in Mex… but only to a few miles in from the border.

My ATT service here in TN is better than my old Sprint service, EXCEPT for the dead spot right at the entrance to my subdivision… quite annoying when you want to make calls on the way to a meeting (i have to remember to wait to dial).

Tho it has gotten better with firmware – I’ve only drop 65% of my calls passing through there now instead of 95%.

There’s no doubt:
1. The iPhone is amazing
2. The service is total crap
I travel often to many cities and I am always surprised when I get good service, but infrequently it does happen. In Chicago (where I live) I get terrible service at home, dropped calls every day on my drive to work, and more dropped calls as I go through my day.

But the iPhone is so damn pretty!

It likely wouldn’t be an iPhone you could recognize.

I think the iPhone on Verizon would be a significantly worse experience.

Yea, AT&T is not great but since the iPhone is at least 50 times better than any other phone , it’s sort of like whining the flight to Hawaii is too long … you just have to accept that the govt let a few cell companies buy up the rest …

I live in the I-5 (main north south highway in western Washington state)corridor at the south end of Bellingham WA and AT&T coverage is practically non-existent, even though they claim coverage here is good. I get very poor to no signal at home and most attempted calls drop in the first minute. Although signal strength with Verizon was not excellent, it was far better at home and in the western WA area than I experience with AT&T. I would switch back to Verizon in a minute if I could take my iPhone with me.

The number of bars is an illusion. I have had dropped calls when my iPhone showed 5 bars and 3G. I have had No Service in places for 10-15 minutes at a time when my Blackberry (also AT&T) worked properly.

One friend had the same issues, but much more exaggerated, and eventually swapped out the iPhone – with much improved performance on the replacement iPhone. Since nobody wants to own this problem, I don’t blame folks for abandoning AT&T and Apple, since they keep sending you back and forth with “It’s the phone”, “No, it’s the network” shenanigans.

The biggest issue I have had with my iPhone is that the network seems to be a bit slow at times. Before all the iPhones the 3G ATT network seemed faster to me. Now many sites seem slower than before.

Overall I have been happy with the service in terms of calls but the speed of the network is not what I had hoped for.
