Android Owners to Enjoy Cupcakes Today
Am I the only one who remembers bringing in cupcakes for the class on their birthday? Well, it’s not the anniversary of T-Mobile’s G1, but owners of the handset get a cupcake today anyway, according to Phandroid. Actually, they get THE cupcake, as in: the updated firmware for Google’s Android mobile operating system. The over-the-air upgrade is apparently starting to trickle out in both the UK and the U.S., so if you don’t see it yet, don’t panic. It could be that they ran out of frosting on the first batch.
We already know about the software keyboard and some other improvements, but here’s a short feature list direct from a screenshot:
- YouTube video uploads
- Stereo Bluetooth support
- Picasa photo uploads
- Video recording
- Sprinkles and rainbow jimmies
OK, maybe the last one isn’t in there. But it ought to be.
If you see the update hit your handset, be sure to let us know so we can confirm the push.

Hmm, I wonder what this means for me since I bought mine unlocked and use it on AT&T. I probably need to insert a friend’s T-Mobile SIM. And if the updates are happening sporadically, I guess I’m at the back of the line.
Actually, if you do a quick Google search at this point it should yield some options for you to get the file manually. Or you could be a brave soul and wait for JF’s new build that should be emerging soon.
Yep, if you have an unlocked Android dev phone (or perhaps even a jail-broken consumer G1), you can get official Android 1.5 system images here:
