Mousing Without a Desk- Weramouse

v2I am a mouse person and find that to be my biggest problem with using UMPCs. It’s great to use the UMPC in my hands, but even with a touchscreen I find myself longing for a mouse to move that tiny cursor over that little screen with great precision. The Weramouse might be just the ticket to solve my problem.

The Weramouse is a handheld trackball with mouse buttons and a scroll wheel. It can handle all mousing functions with precision, and it would be easy to use in one hand while holding the UMPC in the other. Maybe I’ll give it a try; has anyone out there tried it?

  • This seems interesting, but not being Bluetooth is a deal breaker for me, I don’t want to have a wireless receiver hanging on my tablet while on slate mode. They should also have more information on their web site instead of a list of search engine key words on the left side of the page…

  • Hi James,

Been following your posts for a while now. Appreciate all the time given to doing the legwork on UMPCs etc.

I have a couple of wired USB versions of something similar to this. I’m away from my desk right now, so I can’t remember the manufacturer, but I got them at Walmart for around $25. Quite a long USB cable too. Work well and do give ease of use and navigation. Perfect for the armchair too where you have the notebook on your lap and your arm down by your side instead of hooked around in front of you onto the mouse pad. :-)

  • I remember using something like this about 10+ years ago, probably closer to 15. Of course it wasn’t wireless, and it used the PS/2 port, but it was the same concept.
